Waterproof digital cameras with optical zoom

Now that digital cameras are the most popular camera, it would only be a matter of time before people started requesting waterproof digital cameras. You may think not many would be interested in underwater digital cameras, but you'd be surprised. Scuba divers, snorkelers are the ones that come to my mind right away, but think of surfers wanting shots from under the surface, professional photographers, salvage and rescue companies all need waterproof digital cameras. Plus even if you're on land but are in wet situations like in the rain, near waterfalls, on a crab fishing boat, etc. A waterproof digital camera is vital in those situations.

If you wanted to just point and shoot then any waterproof camera would be fine. But what if you wanted to zoom in on something? Are there any waterproof digital cameras with an optical zoom? I checked around and found a lot of point and shoot digital cameras but none for underwater with a digital zoom. Are they even available?

It looks like both Pentax and Olympus make waterproof digital cameras with optical zoom. The Pentax Optio W30, Olympus 1030 SW or the older Olympus 790 SW would work.
The Olympus Style SW series of digital cameras such as the 770 sw, 790 sw and 850 sw all have a 3x optical zoom and are underwater digital cameras. The 1030 sw has a 3.6x optical zoom. All four of these waterproof digital cameras are shock proof to a 5 foot drop and are waterproof.

You could also consider getting a waterproof casing for your Canon digital camera. That works as well and gives you a waterproof digital camera for not much extra cost.
